Dr. Somogyi was born in Manchester, England, and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan at a young age. Her attention to detail was evident early on when she won a national handwriting competition. She attended the University of Notre Dame as a scholar athlete on the varsity rowing team and graduated with a major in Pre-Professional Studies and Psychology. In addition to her academic and athletic pursuits, Dr. Somogyi honed her creative aptitude in the art department. She attended the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago, where she graduated with Honors in Research. During her time at Loyola, she received many accolades, including the Stamm Scholarship for her dedication and service to the Department of Ophthalmology along with competitive research grants from the Richard A. Perritt Foundation and the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness. She was also fortunate to have met her husband, Jason, in medical school. She completed her internship at Presence Resurrection Hospital in Chicago and residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where she was elected chief resident. During residency.
