A microneedling appointment usually starts with a skin assessment to confirm goals (scarring, pores, glow, fine lines) and choose the right depth and technique. A topical numbing cream is typically used, then the microneedling device is passed across targeted areas in controlled patterns. Most sessions take 30-60 minutes depending on the area treated. During treatment, you’ll feel pressure and a light scratchy sensation. Immediately after, your skin is red and may feel tight, warm, and slightly swollen.
- Aftercare is simple but important: gentle cleansing, hydration, and strict sun protection. You’ll usually pause strong actives (retinoids/acids) temporarily. Results are gradual, microneedling is best thought of as “building better skin over time.”
